I am a UKCC Level 3 Judo coach for the British Judo Association. I also have a 1st Dan with both the British Judo Association and the Amateur Judo Association. Competitively I have been Surrey County Champion.
I have been the Team coach for the Epsom and Ewell Borough Judo team for the past 9 years. In 2007 I won an award from Epsom and Ewell Council for my contribution as a Judo coach to sport in the county of Surrey.
I have written 2 books one on Judo called the "Fundamentals of Judo" and one on Brazilian Jiu-jitsu called "Brazilian Jiu-jitsu A Training Manual". I also have a BTEC Level 3 Advanced Self Defense Instructor and a Level 2 Boxing coach for the Amateur Boxing Association.
I started Judo aged 9 and have been involved in the sport every since. Between the ages of 9 – 14, I represented my County and Area and travelled to competitions up and down the UK, even abroad to Holland. Unfortunately, I got injured and turned my hand to coaching and helping younger members of the judo club.
I progressed through the coaching badges and I am now a BJA Level 2 coach with full safeguarding and first aid training. I am also a qualified timekeeper and recorder. I have a black belt (1st Dan) and was Surrey Female Squad Manager for 4 years taking the female junior squad to their first Intercounties Title in over 10 years in 2012.
In 2013, I was awarded with the Kenneth Bryant Award for Services to Judo by the Surrey County Judo Committee.
With Nicola having time off from coaching to have a baby and the refurbishment of our current premises, Epsom Judo Club is currently training at the Ray Stevens Judo Academy.
The costs of training are exactly the same and there is instructor cover for Ed if he cannot make a session. We intend to move back to our current premises when Nicola is back and the building work is complete.
Please check out the Ray Stevens website for class times. If there are any problems please do contact Ed on 07531105373.
